Reefer Madness - The Musical
Directed by Hazel Bean
Step into the Reefer Den…
Get ready to enter the wild, wacky, and wildly inappropriate world of Reefer Madness: The Musical. Inspired by the infamous 1936 anti-marijuana film, this uproarious musical comedy delivers a tongue-in-cheek look at the mass hysteria that surrounds marijuana in America. When innocent, clean-cut teens Jimmy and Mary fall victim to the deadly grip of the "demon weed," their lives spiral out of control in a chaotic, jazz-infused roller coaster of mayhem, lurid romance, and over-the-top violence.
Framed as a "documentary" by a straight-laced high school principal, the show tells the hysterically tragic tale of how marijuana leads to ruin. From jazzy Broadway showstoppers to swing tunes like “Down at the Ol' Five and Dime” and the Vegas-style “Listen to Jesus, Jimmy” (complete with J.C. Himself leading a chorus of showgirl angels), Reefer Madness is a highly stylized and satirical political commentary.
The addictive musical numbers, exaggerated performances, and campy satire will have you laughing (and possibly questioning your choices) until the very last note.
